WELCOME TO THE CAPITAL OF TEXAS POSTCARD CLUB!

The Capital of Texas Postcard Club was organized in 1992. The Club meets monthly, usually on the second Wednesday evening of each month (except for July and August when we are on summer break) from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. In June we normally have an ice cream social on a weekend instead of our monthly meeting.

Our monthly meetings are held at the Senior Activity Center, 2874 Shoal Crest Ave. near 29th and Lamar in Austin. Enter the parking lot from Shoal Crest Ave., which parallels North Lamar one block to the east. We meet in the room at the south end of the building. Don't let the "Senior Activity Center" scare you off, not all of us are "seniors", all ages are welcome! The next annual Capital of Texas Postcard Show will be held March 12th & 13th, 2010.  Our club is recreational for the most part, but we do invite dealers to our meetings who provide access to postcards; we share our collections and interests; and best of all, we make new friends while we exchange postcards, ideas and information.

Our next Club Meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 18th, 7:00 - 9:00 P.M.

NOTE: We would have normally met on Nov. 11th, but as that date is Veteran's Day, the Senior Activity Center will be closed, thus the postponement.  We will also be meeting in a different room due to scheduling conflicts.  As usual, you are invited to bring along any postcards that you would like to sell, trade, or show-and-tell! Or just come and browse through what others have brought!  Refreshments!

If you have a collecting interest you would like to share with the group at a future meeting, please let us know and we will schedule you in! If you are a dealer that will be in the Austin area and would like to sell postcards at one of our meetings, we would love to have you!

Three New Postcard Books by Austin Authors!

Arcadia Publishing Postcard History Series: AUSTIN by Don Martin - "...it shows an interesting side to Austin recorded through photographs and illustrations on postcards sold at roadside stands, gas stations, and in department stores."

Schiffer Publishing: San Antonio Past, Present, & Always by Mel Brown - "...juxtaposes archival postcard views with either a modern card or a personal photo to show what change, if any, has occurred to the buildings and locations that make up San Antonio . . ."

Texas A&M University Press: Taming The Land - The Lost Postcard Photographs of the Texas High Plains by John Miller Morris - "The stories the cards tell - not just the images they capture but also the messages they carried - add an exceptional dimension to our understanding of life in rural Texas a century ago."

These books are available at many local outlets or through online sellers.
